The best reason to put a counter on your website online
Online counters are making a comeback. These are the counters that usually appear at the bottom of a web site that tell people how many unique visitors have visited a website. These counters are making a comeback because they allow a website to get a buzz on itself. Statistics have found that people always go to the website to see what the numbers are in that moment. It is a strange practice, but pushes the visitors back through the roof.
The conversions have increased the use of the meter. The counter on-line can be used to increase conversions by giving your website a sense of high traffic and longevity. When people visit the site and see the people who came before them gives them a sense of ease that the site is real and the site is a reputable site. The counter provides a level of peace to the visitors coming that will not be abused.
It 's also a source of ego among many webmasters to place the counters on the sites. Competitors will often use the counters to mock each other to let them know that a site is winning the race traffic. The second place finalist and beyond constantly watching the meter of the website to see how far behind they are. This can be a double edged sword. Often I have monitored the sites every day and having their tables only to discover that I did not want to compete more in that space because the traffic was so minimal. Other times the traffic is so great at a particular site, that I can not wait to enter and compete more fiercely for the business. With this knowledge I am much more kindled counter to do the job because I know there's a fair amount of traffic and business waiting to be had.
Web sites that offer free on-line counters have a difficult time making money. They have no real way to generate substantial revenue. They have regular streets to earn money as traditional sites, because they can put ads on their pages, but their actual traffic counts can be very low. Many of the free sites will run counter ads in the background as people use the utilities Free counter. These ads can be a good source of income for the owners of the site, but can be annoying to the actual user of the Web site running the utility. The ads appear as pop-up ads or pop-under when someone is leaving or using the site. The click through rate is very low on these types of ads and I think the nature of the ads bother making a loss for the long term nature of the revenue stream .......
